Conservatives in Newcastle gained two new County Councillors yesterday – John Cooper and Trevor Johnson - as local residents backed Theresa May and the Conservatives to deliver a Brexit deal that works for the country and for Staffordshire.
Commenting on the results, Conservative candidate for Newcastle-under-Lyme at the General Election, Owen Meredith said:
“I’m delighted that local residents have backed the Conservative Team and our vision for a better future for Newcastle. In John Cooper, residents in Bradwell, Porthill & Wolstanton have a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly for the community and will be a brilliant councillor.
“People in May Bank & Cross Heath know how hard Trevor Johnson works for the community and he will now be able to do so on the County Council to achieve even more.”
Paul Northcott (Newcastle Rural), Stephen Sweeney (Newcastle South) and Simon Tagg (Westlands & Thistleberry) have also been returned with increased majorities, in recognition of their hard work across the area.
“These results show a positive new direction for Newcastle. Only the Conservatives can beat Labour here and I will be working hard over the next five weeks to win the trust of people across Newcastle-under-:Lyme to back me and Theresa May on June 8th, so we can secure a Brexit deal that works for Newcastle and build a better future together.”
