Watching the Conservative Party risk tearing itself apart over Europe is sadly nothing new. But the fault lines on Europe are not unique to our party, the political divisions cross party lines and split families and friends.
This week we’ve heard from the Foreign Secretary about the importance of building an outward-looking, confident UK as we leave the EU. Boris Johnson sought to bridge the political divide and bring both remain and leave voters into the discussion about shaping our nation’s future.
After a gruelling seven-week election campaign, everything came down to the wire. At close to 7am on the morning of June 9th, more than 24 hours without sleep, and after two recounts, the result was declared – Farrelly 21,124, Meredith 21,094.
Today Newcastle Borough Council released the independent report into the administration of the General Election in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The report found that failings by the Returning Office and the Council led to 1,500 people being denied their democratic right to vote on June 8th.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has ordered an independent review of the parliamentary election in Newcastle following a number of irregularities, including missing postal vote packs, denied proxy votes and voters incorrectly turned away from polling stations.
