Caerphilly Can Be Better - Isn’t It Time We Made It?

Hello,

My name is Owen Meredith. I was born and brought up in Caerphilly. It has been my family home for more than 35 years.

There is so much potential here, but also so much we need to work on. I am deeply concerned by the state we are in, as a town and a nation. It is amazing to think that after 12 years of devolution, Wales has the worst performing economy in the UK.  And there are hard times to come.

Yet, every day I am struck by how much better things could be. Caerphilly is a great place and, working together, I believe we can make the positive changes that so many of us have been waiting for, for so long. Building an enterprising local economy; supporting local young people to gain the right education and skills; and protecting the most vulnerable people in society with first class health and social care – this is our chance to make that change happen.

This is not the time for party political squabbles.  It’s a time to make a big choice – a choice about what is best for Caerphilly; what is best for Wales. This is about doing the right thing for our community and selecting the right people to get on with the job.

I moved away a few years ago as there simply weren’t the opportunities here that would allow me to realise my ambitions. Sadly, for many of our young people that story is familiar. That has to change, and I want to help make that change happen.

That is why I have decided to stand in this election - as your candidate. To listen to you; to understand the problems that hold us back and work with you to find the solutions. I am delighted the Welsh Conservatives have given me this opportunity.

I am looking forward to meeting you in the coming weeks and months. I hope that you will engage with my campaign to help find the right solutions and make those changes happen.
